About Peter

Peter Wagenius biography

Peter Wagenius, 40, grew up in Minneapolis and is a proud graduate of Minneapolis Public Schools. He has lived in Senate District 59 for the past 14 years.

Peter has been active in public service and the community his entire life. He currently serves as Policy Director for Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, in whose office he has worked since Mayor Rybak was elected in 2001. In that role, Peter has spearheaded innovations in transit and transportation, fought entrenched interests to protect taxpayers and worked to enhance public safety and health.

Peter has won elections for DFL and progressive candidates and has been recognized in the media as a top campaign strategist. He co-managed Mayor Rybak’s first campaign for mayor in 2001, served as deputy field director for the Humphrey campaign for governor in 1998, and managed then-House Majority Leader Phil Carruthers’ reelection campaign in 1996. He has also previously worked in the State Senate as a researcher.

Peter has also worked with an educational theater company to teach conflict resolution, violence prevention and other social skills to children.

A movie buff, he likes watching classic movies at The Heights, swing dancing, restoring old furniture and biking around Minneapolis.

Peter and his wife Mandy, a social worker, were married this past June at Saint Anthony Falls. They are restoring a 122-year-old house a few blocks from University Ave in Prospect Park.
